Maharashtra Signs MoU for International Cricket Stadium in Kolhapur

Mumbai, July 21: In a major boost to sports infrastructure in Maharashtra, an MoU was signed between the Kolhapur District Cricket Association (KDCA) and the State Sports Department for the development of an international-standard cricket stadium in Kolhapur. The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister and Sports & Youth Welfare Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar at Mantralaya.

The project will be developed on 12.76 hectares (31.90 acres) of government land at Vikaswadi in Karveer taluka. Designed in accordance with BCCI and ICC standards, the stadium will have a seating capacity of around 35,000 spectators.

Beyond cricket, the complex will be developed as a multi-sports hub, featuring world-class facilities for boxing, judo, archery, wrestling, swimming, table tennis and fencing. The project will also include a modern pavilion, practice grounds, indoor training centre, sports science centre, clubhouse, floodlights, a cricket museum, parking facilities, internal roads, drainage systems, solar power infrastructure and advanced security arrangements.

The initiative is expected to provide world-class training facilities for aspiring athletes, generate local employment, promote sports tourism and strengthen Kolhapur’s rich sporting legacy. It will also create new opportunities for talented players from rural areas by offering access to modern sports infrastructure.
