Crackdown on Illegal Transport Around ST Bus Stations; 8,839 Vehicles Penalised in 20 Days, ₹1.65 Crore Fine Collected

Mumbai, July 21: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), in coordination with the Police Department and the Regional Transport Office (RTO), has launched a special enforcement drive to eliminate illegal transport activities around ST bus stations across the state. The campaign was carried out on the directions of Maharashtra Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik.

Between July 1 and July 20, 2026, authorities took action against 8,839 vehicles found violating traffic and transport regulations. A total fine of ₹1.65 crore (₹1,65,21,315) was recovered, while 195 vehicles were seized during the statewide operation.

The initiative was launched to improve safety and reduce congestion around bus stations, which serve millions of passengers every day. Illegal transport operations and unauthorized parking had been causing traffic bottlenecks and inconvenience, particularly affecting senior citizens, women, students, and persons with disabilities.

Minister Pratap Sarnaik said the campaign has significantly improved traffic discipline and created a safer environment for commuters. He added that similar joint enforcement drives will continue regularly to ensure illegal parking and unauthorized transport activities are permanently curbed.

MSRTC has appealed to vehicle owners to use only designated parking areas near bus stations and cooperate with the authorities in maintaining order and ensuring passenger safety. According to the Minister, passenger safety and disciplined transport management will remain the government’s top priority.
