Maharashtra Government Hikes Monthly Honorarium for Legislators’ PA to 40,000
MUMBAI: In a significant financial relief for personal assistants assisting members of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, the state government has officially raised their monthly honorarium by 10,000. Under the newly issued resolution, assistants will now draw a monthly payout of 40,000, up from the earlier remuneration of 30,000. This upward revision has come into effect retrospectively from August 1, 2026.
Personal assistants play a crucial role in managing public correspondence, addressing constituency issues, and facilitating the smooth execution of legislative proceedings for lawmakers. Following the recommendations submitted by the Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of the Legislature, the Chief Minister cleared the proposal. Subsequently, the Parliamentary Affairs Department issued the formal government order with concurrence from the state Finance Department.
The honorarium of these assistants was last revised on November 15, 2022, when the monthly pay was raised from 25,000 to 30,000. According to the government order, the assistants will continue to be governed under the recruitment rules of 1981. The implementation of this salary hike will be executed through the Maharashtra Legislature Secretariat, and all corresponding expenditures will be absorbed by the sanctioned budget of the Secretariat.
