Maharashtra Emerges as a Key Investment Gateway Between India and the US: CM Devendra Fadnavis

MUMBAI, AUGUST 18: Maharashtra is emerging as a preferred investment destination and a gateway connecting India with the global economy, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Monday, highlighting the state’s growing capabilities in artificial intelligence, data centres, global capability centres and digital infrastructure.

Addressing the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce National Conference 2026 in Mumbai, Fadnavis said Maharashtra was creating a comprehensive ecosystem to meet future requirements in technology, infrastructure and economic development.

“Maharashtra is the gateway for connecting India with the world in investment, technology and economic development,” he said, inviting American investors to bring their ideas, research and expertise to the state. He assured investors that the Maharashtra government would provide skilled manpower, market access and modern infrastructure.

Fadnavis said the India-US partnership was among the most important strategic partnerships of the 21st century and that Maharashtra would play a central role in its next phase, particularly in expanding economic and technological cooperation.

The conference, themed “Reimagining the India-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” focused on strengthening collaboration between the two countries in investment, research, manufacturing and innovation.

According to Fadnavis, Maharashtra has a $660-billion economy and has recorded an average growth rate of 10.2 per cent over the past seven years. Around 65 per cent of the state’s population is below 27 years of age, providing a large pool of young talent. He said Maharashtra’s diversified economy, spanning manufacturing, technology and entertainment, offers opportunities across multiple sectors.

Highlighting emerging technologies, the Chief Minister said AI and rapid technological changes were transforming India-US economic cooperation. Maharashtra and American companies, he said, could collaborate in developing global capability centres, data centres and resilient global supply chains.

Healthcare was another major area of potential cooperation. Fadnavis said India had developed strong capabilities in delivering healthcare at scale, while the US had considerable strengths in innovation. Combining these capabilities could create significant opportunities in healthcare.

He also highlighted Maharashtra’s 165-acre Medicity project in Navi Mumbai, along with the expansion of digital infrastructure in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Maharashtra, he said, accounts for around 65 per cent of India’s digital infrastructure, making it an attractive destination for technology and AI-driven companies.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said India-US relations were strong and that both countries needed to further strengthen economic ties to address future global challenges. He said India and the US were well positioned to contribute to global economic growth through deeper cooperation.

The conference was attended by investors and business representatives from India and the US. Several industry leaders addressed the gathering, while Kaustubh Dhavse, Investment Adviser to the Chief Minister, and Yashasvi Yadav, Additional Director General of Police, Maharashtra Cyber, were felicitated for their notable contributions.
