Actor Sanjay Dutt to Participate in ‘Maha Walkathon 2026 – Walk for Water’
MUMBAI, AUGUST 18: Actor Sanjay Dutt will participate in the state-wide ‘Maha Walkathon 2026 – Walk for Water’, an initiative being organised by the Maharashtra Government’s Soil and Water Conservation Department on August 21, 2026, across all districts of the state to spread awareness about soil and water conservation.
Soil and Water Conservation Minister Sanjay Rathod invited Dutt to participate in the initiative, and the actor has accepted the invitation.
The walkathon aims to take the message of water conservation to a wider audience and transform the initiative into a people’s movement. Public representatives, administrative officials and employees, students, artists, sportspersons, non-governmental organisations, social organisations and citizens from all sections of society are being encouraged to participate.
The walkathon will be held in every district over a maximum distance of three kilometres. Following the event, participants will take a pledge to protect and conserve soil and water. E-certificates will also be issued to participants, while those demonstrating outstanding performance will be felicitated at the district level.
As part of the initiative, the top 10 participants at the district level will receive awards and mementoes. In addition, cash prizes totalling 71,000 are proposed through sponsors. The winner will receive 25,000, the runner-up 15,000, and the third-place winner 10,000. Seven participants will also be selected through a lucky draw and awarded 3,000 each as special prizes.
Carrying the messages ‘Save Soil, Save Water, Secure Tomorrow’ and ‘Save Water, Recharge Water, Build a Water-Secure Maharashtra’, the initiative seeks to create greater public awareness about water conservation.
The State Government is observing Water Conservation Week from August 15 to 21, while a broader water conservation campaign is being conducted from August 15, 2026, to January 26, 2027. The Maha Walkathon on August 21 will form an important part of these efforts and is expected to give further momentum to the campaign to transform water conservation into a widespread people’s movement.
