Maharashtra Hikes Honorarium for Legislators’ PAs, Drivers

MUMBAI, AUGUST 18: The Maharashtra government has decided to increase the monthly honorarium of personal assistants and drivers serving the current members of the state legislature, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandrakant Patil said on Monday.

Under the revised structure, the monthly honorarium for personal assistants has been increased from ₹30,000 to ₹40,000, while that for drivers has been raised from ₹20,000 to ₹30,000. The revised honorarium will be applicable retrospectively from August 1, 2026.

Minister Patil said personal assistants are provided to sitting legislators under the Maharashtra Legislature Members’ Salaries and Allowances Act, 1956, to assist them in carrying out their administrative and legislative responsibilities effectively.

The decision follows recommendations made by the Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Legislature Members. The proposal to revise the honorarium had been under consideration by the state government.
