Aaditya Thackeray eyed for working president role

Political developments in Maharashtra have been dynamic in recent years, especially since 2022, with frequent shifts and realignments. Now, indications of a major organizational change within the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) have emerged. Party MP Sanjay Raut has hinted that Aaditya Thackeray, chief of the Yuva Sena, could be appointed as the working president of the party.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday (April 15), Raut addressed ongoing speculation regarding Aaditya Thackeray’s potential appointment. He stated that such decisions are taken under the leadership of party chief Uddhav Thackeray. He also noted that Uddhav Thackeray himself had once been appointed as the working president of the party. While clarifying that no final decision has yet been made, Raut said that if Aaditya Thackeray’s name is being discussed, it should be welcomed. He emphasized the importance of handing over leadership to the younger generation, suggesting that “the future of politics should be in the hands of youth.”

Responding to remarks that Aaditya Thackeray does not frequently tour the state, Raut dismissed the relevance of private conversations. He added that internal discussions regarding party organization are common and highlighted Aaditya Thackeray’s effective performance during the Mumbai civic elections. He also praised the work of his young team.

Notably, party insiders suggest that Aaditya Thackeray may be given responsibilities similar to those assigned to Uddhav Thackeray in 2003, when he was made working president. A formal proposal for this appointment could be introduced and approved in an upcoming executive meeting of the party.
