Special Correspondent, Mumbai: A massive state-wide crackdown against illegal passenger transport operating near Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus stations has yielded highly positive financial results. Following directives from Pratap Sarnaik, Minister for Transport and Chairman of MSRTC, and in strict compliance with an order from the then Aurangabad Bench of the High Court, a special drive was launched across the state. Under the leadership of Chief Security and Vigilance Officer, Ms. Priyanka Naranware, strict action was taken against unauthorized transport operating within a 200-meter radius of bus stations. This decisive move successfully redirected commuters back to the state’s trusted ‘Lalperi’ (MSRTC buses), resulting in a multi-crore revenue boost for the corporation within a mere fortnight.
From June 1 to June 15, 2026, MSRTC recorded a total transport revenue of 495.34 crore. When compared to the 451.51 crore generated during the exact same period last year, this represents a substantial increase of 43.83 crore (a growth of 9.71%). Consequently, the corporation’s average daily income has scaled up by 3 crore.
Expressing satisfaction over these results, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik noted that illegal passenger transport operations near bus terminals were previously causing severe damage to MSRTC’s ridership and overall revenue. In accordance with the court’s mandates, joint enforcement teams comprising the Transport Department, Regional Transport Office (RTO), local police, and MSRTC administration executed stringent checks. This collaborative effort effectively restored public trust in state transport, as reflected in the sharp upward trajectory of the corporation’s earnings.
Minister Sarnaik further emphasized that providing safe, reliable, and legal public transport remains the government’s topmost priority. He warned that this enforcement drive will be intensified in the coming days to make every bus station area in the state 100% free of unauthorized transport, ensuring that such regulatory actions continue consistently to strengthen MSRTC’s financial sustainability.
