Yoga Park Portal Launched for Community Wellness

New Delhi, June 16: In a significant step towards promoting preventive healthcare and healthy living, the Ministry of Ayush has launched the Yoga Park Portal, an initiative aimed at transforming public parks across India into dedicated community wellness centres.

The portal was inaugurated by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, during the 25-day countdown event for the International Day of Yoga 2026 in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. The launch coincided with the relaunch of the Yoga Sangam Portal.

The Yoga Park initiative seeks to convert existing parks into accessible spaces for yoga, meditation, and community wellness activities. Through the portal, Panchayati Raj Institutions, Urban Local Bodies, Resident Welfare Associations, non-governmental organisations corporate entities, and other stakeholders can participate in the development and maintenance of Yoga Parks.

Speaking on the occasion Jadhav said that Yoga Parks are envisioned as long-term community assets that will encourage healthier lifestyles and strengthen India’s preventive healthcare framework. He noted that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to making yoga an integral part of everyday life.

Under the programme parks can be equipped with yoga platforms, meditation zones, green spaces, awareness facilities, and open areas for group sessions. The initiative is designed to create welcoming environments where people of all age groups can regularly engage in wellness activities.

A key feature of the programme is its collaborative approach. Local authorities and community organisations will play an active role in identifying and maintaining suitable parks, while yoga institutions will support awareness campaigns and conduct regular sessions. The initiative also encourages Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) participation, allowing companies to contribute to the creation of public wellness infrastructure.

According to the Ministry, CSR-supported Yoga Parks can leave a lasting public health legacy by providing citizens with accessible spaces for yoga practice, health awareness programmes, and community engagement. Companies supporting the initiative may also receive recognition for their contributions to social well-being.

The Yoga Park Portal serves as a digital platform offering guidelines, registration facilities, concept notes, and other resources to stakeholders interested in joining the programme. By bringing together government agencies, local bodies, community organisations, and corporate partners, the Ministry aims to create a nationwide movement focused on wellness and preventive healthcare.

The initiative aligns with the theme of International Day of Yoga 2026, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlighting the role of yoga in addressing lifestyle disorders, stress, and age-related health challenges. Officials believe that accessible wellness spaces can encourage regular physical activity, mindfulness, and social interaction among citizens.

The Ministry emphasised that the Yoga Park initiative is intended to create a lasting impact beyond annual Yoga Day celebrations. By establishing permanent wellness spaces in communities across the country, the programme seeks to transform awareness about yoga into sustained public participation and long-term health benefits.

As more parks are integrated into the initiative, Yoga Parks are expected to emerge as symbols of India’s commitment to holistic well-being, environmental harmony, and preventive healthcare.
