Leadership
A homecoming, and a new chapter: Tatsuya Fujimoto takes the helm at IFFCO-TOKIO

There is something quietly satisfying about returning to a place where an important part of your professional journey once began. For Tatsuya Fujimoto, that place seemingly is India.
Nearly a decade after spending two months in Mumbai as an Executive Trainee in 2016, Fujimoto is returning to take on a much larger role. On September 2, 2026, IFFCO-TOKIO General Insurance Company appointed him Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, marking a new chapter for the general insurer.
The appointment brings with it almost three decades of experience across Tokio Marine Group, along with a familiarity with IFFCO-TOKIO that few incoming CEOs can claim.
Fujimoto-san has spent 28 years with Tokio Marine Group, beginning his career in its sales department in 1998. Over the years, his responsibilities have taken him across marketing, corporate planning, risk management, underwriting, customer analytics, and business transformation. Eighteen of those years were spent in Japan, while another decade took him overseas, including assignments in the United States, Malaysia, and India.
His relationship with IFFCO-TOKIO is already well established. He served as Senior Executive Director and Chief Risk Officer at the company between November 2024 and June 2025, before taking over as Director-Operations. That experience gives him an unusual perspective on the organisation: he arrives at the top having already spent time understanding its people, operations, customers, and ambitions.
His international experience has also been broad. Before moving to India, Fujimoto served as Deputy CEO of the First Insurance Company of Hawaii. His work across commercial, personal, corporate, and reinsurance underwriting has given him exposure to different sides of the insurance business, while his focus on customer analytics and customer experience reflects an industry increasingly shaped by data and changing consumer expectations. That combination could prove particularly relevant as India’s insurance market enters another phase of expansion.
For IFFCO-TOKIO, Fujimoto’s appointment comes with an ambition to scale operations, accelerate growth, improve operational efficiency, and create long-term value. His remit will span the traditional demands of running a large insurer while also pushing the company towards greater use of data, sharper customer understanding, and continued business transformation.
Fujimoto-san himself sees the company’s future through the strength of its two promoters. IFFCO brings its brand and extensive network, while Tokio Marine contributes deep expertise in insurance and risk management. The opportunity, he believes, lies in bringing those strengths together to create greater value for customers, intermediaries, and society.
“I am deeply honoured to step into the role of Managing Director and CEO,” Fujimoto-san said, adding that he was proud of the company’s legacy and eager to lead its next phase of growth.
There is also a personal note to the appointment. His first Indian experience lasted only two months, but nearly ten years later, it has brought him back to the country in a very different capacity.
An alumnus of Keio University and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Fujimoto brings the credentials of a global insurance professional. More importantly, he brings an understanding of the company he is now being asked to lead.
For IFFCO-TOKIO, the next chapter begins with a leader who knows the organisation, understands the global insurance landscape, and has already had a brief introduction to India. This time, the belief is he is here to stay.
