Maharashtra Sets 95%+ Target for Central Funds Utilisation

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed all state departments to ensure timely and effective utilisation of funds received from the Centre under various centrally sponsored schemes, with expenditure targeted at more than 95 per cent during the current financial year.

During a high-level review meeting at Sahyadri Guest House, Fadnavis stressed that central funds must be utilised efficiently to accelerate infrastructure and development projects across Maharashtra. He urged departments to link state schemes with central programmes wherever possible to expand the scope of development initiatives.

The Chief Minister said Maharashtra could utilise around ₹16,000–17,000 crore in central funds next year, with a significant share expected to support capital expenditure.

He directed departments to avoid last-minute spending and adopt a sense of urgency. A quarterly monitoring mechanism, chaired by the Chief Secretary, will review fund utilisation.

During 2025–26, School Education and Sports utilised 96 per cent, Home and Textiles 99 per cent, and Soil and Water Conservation 98 per cent of allocated funds. Rural Development spent ₹8,537 crore, or 86 per cent, while MGNREGS achieved 100 per cent utilisation.

Fadnavis emphasised that every rupee received from the Centre must translate into tangible development at the grassroots level.
