India Post has released a Special Postal Cover for MVIRDC World Trade Center (WTC) Mumbai, recognising its significant contribution to trade and industry development in India for more than five decades. To mark the occasion, WTC Mumbai hosted a special event celebrating its longstanding role in strengthening India’s global trade presence. Over the years, the institution has played a key role in connecting Indian businesses with international markets, facilitating trade, and fostering economic partnerships.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Vijay Kalantri, Chairman of WTC Mumbai and President of the All India Association of Industries (AIAI), highlighted the organisation’s legacy. He said the centre was inspired by the vision of Bharat Ratna M. Visvesvaraya, who believed in nation-building through planning, innovation, and enterprise. He also recalled that the land for the centre was allotted under the leadership of Morarji Desai, who later inaugurated the facility as Prime Minister.
Kalantri added that WTC Mumbai was established with the aim of positioning Mumbai as a global hub for trade and commerce. He emphasised that the institution has consistently adapted to changing global dynamics while supporting business growth, particularly for MSMEs, and contributing to the country’s economic progress.
In his keynote address, Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle, acknowledged WTC Mumbai’s role in strengthening India’s trade ecosystem. He noted that such institutions provide vital platforms for business interaction and collaboration. He also highlighted the evolving role of India Post as a logistics enabler, supported by expanding infrastructure and partnerships across the country.
The event also featured the official release and stamping of the Special Postal Cover, commemorating WTC Mumbai’s milestone achievement. Special covers issued by India Post serve as lasting records of important events and contributions.
Priya Pansare, Director, Trade & Investment Promotion at WTC Mumbai, said the organisation has seen significant growth in recent years, particularly in sustainability, innovation, and business facilitation. She expressed gratitude to the Department of Posts for its support in issuing the commemorative cover.
Looking ahead, WTC Mumbai reaffirmed its commitment to promoting global trade, fostering collaboration, and contributing to inclusive economic growth.
