Mumbai: In view of the prevailing adverse weather conditions and strong winds reaching speeds of 70–80 kmph, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a comprehensive safety advisory for all developers, architects, licensed surveyors (LS), contractors, project managers, and engineers associated with construction sites across Mumbai.
The civic body has directed stakeholders to inspect scaffolding, cranes, hoardings, formwork, temporary structures, compound walls, and loose construction materials to ensure they are stable and securely fastened. Loose materials kept on rooftops, terraces, and elevated platforms must be removed immediately or properly secured.
BMC has also instructed construction agencies to ensure systematic site management, strengthen safety measures at excavation sites, and inspect tower cranes, material hoists, construction lifts, safety nets, and other lifting equipment for stability. If weather conditions pose any risk, all lifting operations and work at heights must be suspended immediately, while exclusion zones around construction sites should be strictly maintained.
The advisory makes it mandatory for all workers to use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and fall protection systems while working at heights. Site managers have been asked to conduct immediate safety audits and rectify all hazardous conditions without delay.
The BMC has further directed all stakeholders to continuously monitor weather conditions and implement necessary preventive measures until the situation normalises. Stressing that the safety of workers, nearby residents, and the general public is of utmost importance, the civic body has urged all developers to strictly comply with safety regulations and follow best construction practices.
