Mumbai: Heavy rainfall has triggered multiple landslides and flooding across parts of Raigad district, disrupting road connectivity on the Mumbai-Goa Highway and several other key routes. Authorities have launched emergency operations to restore traffic and ensure public safety.
A landslide occurred near Kashedi on the Mumbai-Goa Highway, severely affecting traffic heading from Mumbai towards Goa. Teams from the National Highways Authority are clearing debris and working to resume normal traffic movement. With heavy rain and strong winds continuing in the area, residents living near the affected hillside have been shifted to safer locations as a precaution.
The Varandha Ghat road has been closed after multiple landslides between Warwand and Umbarde following overnight heavy rainfall. Road-clearing operations are underway.
In Raigad district, barges drifting from Mahad have become lodged near the Mhapral-Ambet bridge in Mandangad taluka, posing a potential risk to the bridge. As a precaution, traffic on the Mandangad–Mhapral–Goregaon–Mangaon route has been temporarily suspended. Police, Revenue, Public Works Department, and Zilla Parishad officials are carrying out necessary safety measures.
Traffic has also been disrupted on the Pen-Khopoli road due to waterlogging. Meanwhile, 12 workers stranded near the Amba River at Kansal village in Sudhagad taluka were safely rescued by the local administration.
The district administration has appealed to citizens to contact the concerned authorities immediately in case of floods, landslides, road closures, or any other emergency, and to strictly follow official advisories issued from time to time.
