A New Path to Self-Employment’ for Transgender Individuals

Financial Assistance Ranging from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 2 Lakhs Introduced Under New Seed Capital Scheme with 3% Interest Rebate

Mumbai, August 7: The Maharashtra State Government has taken a significant step toward empowering transgender individuals financially and integrating them into the mainstream of self-employment and business. Approval has been granted for the implementation of the ‘Seed Capital Scheme for Self-Employment and Business of Transgender Persons’, under which eligible beneficiaries will receive financial assistance ranging from 25,000 up to 2,00,000. This scheme presents a major opportunity for transgender individuals who wish to become financially self-reliant by starting their own small businesses.

Along with promoting small-scale industries and micro-enterprises, the scheme aims to create sustainable employment opportunities through skill development and entrepreneurship training. It incorporates three types of loan packages tailored to the needs of the beneficiaries, including a Micro Loan Scheme offering financial assistance of 25,000, a Medium Loan Scheme offering 50,000, and a Long-Term Loan Scheme providing assistance up to 2,00,000. Under the scheme’s funding structure, the beneficiary contributes 5 percent, while government subsidies cover 45 percent and bank loans cover the remaining 50 percent. Beneficiaries who repay their loans regularly will receive an additional benefit of a 3 percent interest rebate. Furthermore, since no guarantor or collateral security is required, the scheme offers immense relief to aspiring entrepreneurs.

Financial support under this initiative can be availed for a wide variety of businesses, such as vegetable stalls, tea and snacks centers, fruit stalls, general stores, stationery shops, xerox and lamination centers, juice centers, bakeries, beauty parlors, salons, mobile shops, bangle shops, laundries, spice manufacturing, flour mills, cloth bag manufacturing, potato wafer production, ice cream manufacturing, chicken and fish vending centers, and mini goods transport tempos. Skill-based services including plumbing, electrical work, air conditioner repair, mobile servicing, and home appliance repairs are also fully eligible for funding.

To avail of the benefits under this scheme, the applicant must meet specific eligibility conditions. The candidate must be a resident of Maharashtra for at least 10 years, possess an official Transgender Identity Card issued by a competent authority, be between 18 and 50 years of age, and be capable of carrying out the business. Additionally, applicants must not have availed of benefits under any other Seed Capital Scheme previously, and any relevant business skills must be clearly stated in the application.
Applicants are required to submit several essential supporting documents alongside their application form. These include a Domicile Certificate proving 10 years of residence in Maharashtra, a Transgender Identity Card, Voter ID Card, PAN Card, Ration Card, Electricity Bill, proof of business premises, quotations for machinery or materials, a rent agreement if applicable, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the property owner, an NOC from the local self-government body, an affidavit, and two passport-sized photographs.
