Tata Projects strengthens leadership with the appointment of Sukumar Hebbar as MD & CEO

As India accelerates its infrastructure ambitions, engineering and construction companies are strengthening their leadership to capitalize on these opportunities.

Tata Projects has appointed Sukumar Hebbar as its new Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) with immediate effect. He succeeds Vinayak Pai, who has led the company since 2022. The appointment comes as the Tata Group’s engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company scales its presence across urban infrastructure, industrial EPC, data centres, and emerging growth sectors.

Sukumar Hebbar brings more than 35 years of experience in India’s engineering and infrastructure sector, having spent his entire professional career at Larsen & Toubro (L&T) before joining Tata Projects. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President and Head of Transportation Infrastructure, overseeing some of India’s largest roads, bridges, railway, and transportation projects.

His leadership portfolio includes the successful delivery of several landmark infrastructure projects such as the Ram Mandir, Navi Mumbai International Airport, and Kartavya Bhawan, along with major healthcare infrastructure projects including AIIMS campuses, medical colleges and advanced cancer care centres across India. Throughout his career, he has also championed modern construction technologies, including 3D concrete printing, modular construction, and composite structures, helping drive innovation in large-scale project execution.

An architecture graduate from the University of Mysore, Hebbar has also completed the Advanced Management Programme in Organisational Leadership at INSEAD, strengthening his expertise in strategic leadership and organizational transformation.
