CM’s Medical Assistance Cell to Sign MoUs with Charitable Organisations

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Government has taken an important step to ensure that patients and their relatives visiting major hospitals across the state do not face inconvenience and receive quality support and services. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) will soon be signed between various charitable organisations and the Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Cell to provide comprehensive assistance to patients’ relatives.

Thousands of patients and their family members arrive at major hospitals from across Maharashtra every day for treatment. The rising cost of medical care, difficulties in arranging accommodation and meals, and lack of proper guidance often create significant hardships for patients’ relatives. Taking these concerns into consideration, the government has decided to establish a transparent and streamlined mechanism that brings various support services under one roof.

Under the proposed arrangement, assistance provided through charitable hospitals and non-governmental organisations will reach patients’ relatives directly and in a timely manner. Hospitals under the supervision of the Charity Commissioner already provide free or subsidised treatment to economically weaker patients. To bring greater coordination to this process, the system will be linked with the Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Cell.

In addition, facilities such as accommodation for relatives, free or low-cost meals, and medical guidance will be made more effectively available in the vicinity of hospitals.

The initiative is expected to bring together the contribution of charitable organisations and the efficiency of government machinery to create a model healthcare support system in Maharashtra. Through the cooperation of charitable trusts, various tripartite MoUs will also be signed, enabling patients to directly benefit from these services.

Details of the initiative are available on the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) website, and all eligible organisations have been urged to participate in the programme.
