National Museum Records 17,000 Visitors in May

Mumbai, June 4: The National Museum of Indian Cinema (NMIC) recorded a footfall of more than 17,000 visitors in May 2026, making it one of the most successful months in the museum’s history and reinforcing its growing popularity as a major cultural and tourist attraction in Mumbai.

Managed by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the museum witnessed a steady influx of families, students, film enthusiasts, and tourists throughout the month. Many visitors were part of Mumbai Darshan tours, highlighting the museum’s increasing prominence on the city’s tourism map.

Guests explored a wide range of exhibits, including rare vintage film equipment, iconic memorabilia, and interactive multimedia displays that chronicle the evolution of Indian cinema over the past century. The museum’s unique presentation of the country’s cinematic journey continues to attract audiences from diverse backgrounds.

NFDC Managing Director Prakash Magdum said the strong visitor turnout reflects the enduring appeal of Indian cinema and the growing public interest in preserving and celebrating the nation’s film heritage. He added that the achievement further strengthens NMIC’s position as one of Mumbai’s leading cultural destinations.

The success has been attributed to the efforts of the museum’s team led by D. Ramakrishnan, General Manager, NFDC, and Satyajit Mandle, Deputy General Manager and Museum Curator. Through extensive outreach programmes and collaborations with educational institutions, organisations, tour operators and other stakeholders, the museum significantly expanded its reach and encouraged group visits from across Mumbai and beyond.

As India’s only museum dedicated to presenting the complete story of Indian cinema—from the silent era to the digital age—NMIC continues to offer visitors an immersive experience celebrating the country’s rich film legacy.
