Strict Action Against Developers Who Fail to Hand Over MHADA-Reserved Homes: Mangal Prabhat Lodha

Mumbai, August 6: Maharashtra Cabinet Minister and Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha has directed officials to take stringent action against developers who fail to hand over homes reserved for MHADA in new housing projects. Speaking at the computerized lottery draw of 2,640 MHADA homes at Rang Sharda Auditorium in Bandra (West), Lodha said filing an FIR alone is not enough and that developers should be sent to jail if necessary for violating housing regulations.

Lodha said developers availing additional development rights under Development Control Regulations are legally required to transfer reserved flats to MHADA, but many have delayed doing so for years. He stated that strict action against a few offenders would compel others to comply, making nearly 1,000 additional homes available for eligible citizens.

The minister also proposed forming MHADA Advisory Committees, similar to the civic advisory panels introduced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. These committees would include public representatives, housing experts, architects, NGOs, and local stakeholders to strengthen communication between citizens and MHADA and help resolve local housing issues more efficiently.

Lodha praised MHADA’s efforts towards transparent and citizen-centric housing administration, reaffirming the Maharashtra government’s commitment to providing affordable, fair, and transparent housing for the common people under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
