Elon Musk Plans $1 Tipping on X: Long-Press the Like Button to Pay
X is working on a feature that would let users send $1 to creators by pressing and holding the Like button, powered by X Money.
Elon Musk plans to let X users send $1 to another person by long-pressing the Like button on a post. The feature would run on X Money, the platform’s payments service, and could make it easier to support creators without leaving the app.
Musk announced the plan in a post on October 25, 2026. It is another step in his effort to turn X, formerly Twitter, into an all-in-one platform that combines social media, messaging and financial services.
How the feature would work
A user would press and hold the Like button on a post to send $1 through X Money. Linking a familiar action to a payment could make small tips a natural part of using the app.
Several details are still unclear. X has not said when the feature will launch, whether users can change the amount, or who will be eligible.
X Money is the foundation
X Money launched in the United States in July 2026 on an invite-only basis. It supports peer-to-peer transfers and offers an X-branded Visa debit card to eligible users. It runs on banking infrastructure from Cross River Bank and is not itself a bank.
Putting payments into everyday interactions could encourage more frequent use of the service. For creators, it could mean a new source of direct support, though the impact will depend on adoption and the rules around transactions.
The “everything app” vision
Musk has long said he wants X to become an “everything app” that brings communication, content and payments together. The idea draws comparisons with China’s WeChat. For creators and businesses, it offers another way to earn from engagement. For X, it ties its social network more closely to financial services and could open new revenue.
Will X Money come to India?
X has not announced a launch date for X Money in India. The rollout is currently focused on the US and limited by eligibility rules. India’s payments market is dominated by UPI, so X would need to deal with local regulation, payment infrastructure and user expectations before launching.
What to watch
The tipping feature is still at the announcement stage. Its launch date, final functionality and availability outside the US are unconfirmed. Its success will depend on how smoothly payments fit into the social experience while keeping user trust, security and clear financial controls.
