7 Romantic Netflix Films to Add to Your Watchlist

Romance will mean something different for each person. For some, it’s grand gestures and happily-ever-afters. For others, it’s the quiet moments, the missed chances, the heartbreaks that teach us something, or the unexpected connections that change everything.

A good love story will have the ability to draw you into it and make you feel all the same emotions that the characters feel whether you are watching the movie, reading the book, or listening to the music.

If you are in the mood for a movie that will make you smile, cry, swoon or leave you with butterflies, Netflix has many options. Below are 7 romantic movies that should be added to your watch list:

La La Land

There are very few modern-day romances that have captured the imagination of an audience like La La Land has done. The riveting film follows Mia, the aspiring actress and Sebastian, the passionate Jazz artist as they pursue their dreams in Los Angeles while dealing with their romance that is budding before our eyes. La La Land is visually stunning, has beautiful songs, and performances that remain in our minds long after we finish watching the film. La La Land is a depiction of what love is and also illustrates to us that love does not always go as we wish.

Set It Up

Another rom-com with the sweetest chemistry is the Netflix original “Set It Up” starring Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell. “Set It Up” is about two assistants who help each other to match their bosses in an attempt to get some of their lives back. This sweet and funny rom-com has a lot of heart with lots of chemistry making it the ideal choice for a casual movies night.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

To many people, “To All The Boys I Loved Before” is a movie that creates a feeling of nostalgic happiness. The fact that this rom-com was a global sensation on Netflix also makes it relevant to our list of movies you should watch with your friends. This movie centres around Lara Jean, who sends her love letters to different people and the ensuing drama when they get out.

Purple Hearts

While the initial premise of “Purple Hearts” may seem like a classic opposites-attract movie about two different people falling in love, it actually delivers an emotional punch. The story follows a young aspiring musician and a Marine as they enter into a marriage of convenience. As the two navigate their way through their military life together they form a bond that goes beyond their initial agreement.

The Half of It

If you’re looking for something unique and thought-provoking, The Half of It should definitely be a must-see! In The Half of It, an introverted student agrees to help her classmate woo a girl by writing messages to her but ends up developing feelings for the girl herself. This isn’t just a love story, it’s a beautiful exploration of identity, friendship, and self-discovery. Quietly strong, The Half of It has received critical acclaim as one of the best romantic dramas produced by Netflix.

Meenakshi Sundareshwar

A different and fresh perspective on contemporary relationships; a newly married couple has to separate when their marriage becomes long-distance after only one week together! All of these factors contribute to the film being well crafted and engaging to watch; however, what truly makes it great is its simplicity. Rather than featuring a lot of dramatic story turns, it simply follows along with the day-to-day trials and tribulations that couples face while trying to maintain long-distance relationships. With endearing performances given by Sanya Malhotra as Meenakshi and Abhimanyu Dassani as Sundareshwar, the movie can be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys uplifting love stories.

Love Per Square Foot

Before engaging in a romantic relationship, you must find your perfect home. Love Per Square Foot tells the story about two individuals, both of whom are living in Mumbai and decide to buy an apartment as a means of helping one another out while they each search for their ideal partner. As they begin with a plan to share the cost of an apartment, they eventually develop into a loving couple. Although the film is humorous, it has a grounded realism to it with plenty of relatable moments for those living in a metropolitan area like Mumbai, where both love and housing can sometimes be difficult to come by.
