IndiGo Wedding Ordeal: Couple Attends Ceremony Virtually

The recent operational disruptions faced by IndiGo have transcended mere travel inconveniences and impacted significant life events.

Medha Kshirsagar and Sangama Das, both software engineers based in Bengaluru, found themselves in an unprecedented situation on Wednesday when they were forced to attend their own wedding reception virtually. The couple had been scheduled to fly from Bhubaneswar to Hubballi via Bengaluru for the event, but their plans were derailed after their flight was repeatedly delayed and eventually cancelled.

Medha and Sangama, who had tied the knot in Bhubaneswar on November 23, had organised a formal reception at Gujarat Bhavan in Hubballi on December 3 to celebrate with friends and extended family. With invitations sent and guests arriving from cities including Mumbai and Pune, cancelling the event was not a viable option.

Anil Kumar Ksheerasagar, the bride’s father, displayed quick strategic thinking to salvage the celebration. He arranged for a large screen at the venue, allowing the couple to join the proceedings via video call from Bhubaneswar, fully dressed in their wedding attire.

While the bride’s parents performed the necessary rituals in person, the newlyweds interacted with guests and sought blessings through the digital interface. The bride’s mother noted the emotional weight of the situation, stating that they felt very bad as they had invited so many relatives, and cancelling at the last minute was impossible. She added that after discussing it as a family, they decided to have the couple attend online.

The incident highlights the severe impact of the current aviation crisis, where operational constraints are upending not just schedules, but personal milestones that cannot be rescheduled.
