- Official Announcement Made in the House by Chairperson Ram Shinde
MUMBAI, July 1
Sachin Ahir, Shiv Sena leader and Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), has been unanimously elected as the Deputy Chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. The election concluded unopposed after the opposition withdrew its nomination, following which Chairperson Ram Shinde made the official announcement of Ahir’s election in the House.
As soon as the house proceedings commenced, the freshly elected member representing the Parbhani-cum-Hingoli Local Authorities’ constituency, Saeed Khan Shergul Khan, was formally introduced to the House. Following this introduction, the formal process for the Deputy Chairperson’s election got underway. A total of four motions had been tabled for the election. Among these, Ambadas Danve of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (Thackeray faction) had filed one motion proposing the name of Jagannath Abhyankar. On the other side, three separate motions had been submitted by Sanjay Khodke, Pravin Darekar, and Dr. Manisha Kayande proposing Sachin Ahir for the post.
Opposition Withdraws Nomination in Line with Tradition
Before the voting process could begin, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandrakant Patil reminded the House of its glorious tradition, noting that the election of the Deputy Chairperson has historically been unanimous and unopposed. He subsequently requested Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab and candidate Jagannath Abhyankar to withdraw their nomination.
Responding to the Parliamentary Affairs Minister’s appeal, Anil Parab stated that having been a member of the House for many years, he was fully aware of its sanctity and decorum, and expressed his readiness to withdraw the nomination. Following this, the seconder of the motion, MLC Abhijit Vanjari, officially withdrew the proposal for Jagannath Abhyankar’s candidacy.
Unanimous Endorsement for Sachin Ahir
With the opposition pulling out of the race, the floor was cleared. Upon the Chairperson’s direction, MLC Sanjay Khodke tabled the primary motion proposing that Sachin Ahir be appointed as the Deputy Chairperson. This motion was formally seconded by MLCs Vikram Kale, Pravin Darekar, and Dr. Manisha Kayande.
Chairperson Ram Shinde then put the motion to a voice vote, which received unanimous support from the entire House. Consequently, the Chairperson officially declared that Sachin Ahir had been elected unopposed as the Deputy Chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council.
