Oil firms assure steady fuel supply in Maharashtra

Mumbai : Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs)  Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Llimited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited have assured consumers that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG in Maharashtra despite a sharp surge in fuel demand across the state.

State Level Coordinator (Oil Industry) Maharashtra, Shri Mihir Ganesh Joshi, said the three public sector oil companies are maintaining uninterrupted fuel supplies and ensuring smooth logistics operations throughout the state. He said the recent increase in demand has been driven largely by seasonal agricultural activities in several districts of Maharashtra.

Officials said another major reason behind the demand surge is the migration of retail customers to public sector fuel stations because of lower fuel prices compared to private suppliers. In addition, several institutional and commercial consumers have also shifted towards retail fuel outlets operated by PSU oil companies, leading to a substantial rise in petrol and diesel sales.

According to official figures, diesel sales recorded a growth of 19.66 percent during the first fortnight of May 2026, while petrol sales increased by 20.39 percent during the same period. The three PSU oil companies supplied a total of 267 TKL of petrol and 502 TKL of diesel across Maharashtra in the first two weeks of May.

The demand continued to rise sharply during the third week of May as well. Petrol sales growth was recorded at 34 percent on May 18, 21 percent on May 19 and 18 percent on May 20. Diesel sales during the same period increased by 49 percent, 42 percent and 40 percent respectively.

Despite the unprecedented rise in demand, the oil companies said all fuel requirements have been fully met without any disruption. The companies are operating through their extensive nationwide network of fuel terminals, depots, pipelines, LPG bottling plants and retail outlets to ensure continuous supply.

Supply teams, transport networks, terminal operations and select retail outlets are functioning round-the-clock to maintain seamless movement of petroleum products and timely replenishment across markets. The PSU OMCs are also working in close coordination with the Maharashtra State Administration to ensure smooth fuel distribution.

The oil companies reassured citizens that adequate stocks of petrol, diesel and LPG are available throughout Maharashtra and appealed to consumers not to indulge in panic buying. They urged people to continue normal purchasing behaviour and rely only on official communication issued by authorised agencies and Oil Marketing Companies regarding fuel availability.
