Maharashtra Seeks Fast-Track Approval for Sagarmala 2.0 Projects; Nitesh Rane Meets Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal

Mumbai, July 29: Maharashtra Minister for Fisheries and Ports Nitesh Rane met Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal in New Delhi and urged the Centre to grant priority approval to Maharashtra’s proposals under the Sagarmala 2.0 programme.

During the meeting, Rane submitted a detailed representation requesting speedy clearances for key projects aimed at boosting port infrastructure, fisheries development, coastal connectivity and the maritime economy of the state.

The proposed initiatives include modernisation of fishing harbours, development of coastal infrastructure, improvement of multimodal logistics networks, promotion of coastal shipping and inland waterways, and expansion of maritime tourism. Rane highlighted that timely implementation of these projects would create employment opportunities, encourage private investment and strengthen Maharashtra’s coastal economy.

The Maharashtra Maritime Board has already submitted comprehensive project proposals under the Sagarmala 2.0 framework. Emphasising their alignment with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, Rane requested the Union Government to consider the proposals on priority.

Rane expressed confidence that early approvals would further enhance Maharashtra’s port infrastructure, fisheries sector and position the state as a leading maritime hub. He reiterated the government’s commitment towards sustainable and integrated port-led development through strategic investments in the maritime sector.
