FIR Sought Over Illegal Pruning of 63 Trees

Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar issued directives

A serious matter concerning the unauthorized pruning of as many as 63 trees in the New Link Road area of Andheri (West) to provide better visibility to advertising hoardings was brought to the attention of Guardian Minister and Minister for Information Technology & Cultural Affairs, Adv. Ashish Shelar, through a written complaint submitted by local corporator Rupesh Sawarkar. Taking cognizance of the issue, the Guardian Minister directed officials to immediately register an FIR against the advertising company concerned.

A large number of tree branches were reportedly cut to enhance the visibility of advertisement hoardings along the New Link Road. The issue was raised by local corporator Rupesh Sawarkar during a meeting held today at the Mumbai Suburban District Collector’s office. When Minister Ashish Shelar sought an explanation, officials of the BMC acknowledged that the trees had indeed been pruned and informed that a preliminary complaint had been submitted to the concerned Divisional Office and the Amboli Police Station. However, corporator Rupesh Sawarkar pointed out that no FIR had been registered in the matter so far.

Taking serious note of the issue, Minister Ashish Shelar directed the police and concerned authorities to examine the permissions granted for the advertisement hoardings and immediately register an FIR against the advertising company found guilty.
