CM Devendra Fadnavis Directs Faster Completion of Housing Projects

Integrated Portal to Manage Over 35,000 Housing Units

Mumbai: The dream of owning a home for thousands of common citizens is set to become a reality sooner, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directing authorities to expedite housing projects while ensuring strict adherence to quality standards and project timelines.

Chairing a review meeting at Sahyadri Guest House on Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 and the state’s available housing stock, the Chief Minister stressed that faster implementation would enable timely distribution of houses. He, however, emphasized that speed should not compromise construction quality and instructed all agencies to complete projects in accordance with prescribed standards.

The state has received an overwhelming response to the beneficiary registration drive under PMAY (Urban) 2.0, with more than 4.21 lakh beneficiaries registered as of July 30. Over 1.60 lakh houses have already been sanctioned under the scheme, covering beneficiary-led construction, affordable housing, public-private partnership (PPP) projects, and rental housing. The government is also continuing incentives such as free sand for economically weaker sections, concessions on land measurement charges, and reduced stamp duty.

The review also focused on establishing an integrated Housing Stock Portal to manage more than 35,000 houses available with agencies such as MHADA, CIDCO, MMRDA, BMC, and SRA. The digital platform will consolidate housing data and facilitate priority allotment for specially identified groups, including persons with disabilities, mill workers, Mathadi workers, dabbawalas, and transgender persons.

Housing allotments will be made based on priority categories, followed by eligible PMAY beneficiaries. Remaining houses will be allotted through the respective authorities’ lottery system, and any unsold units will be offered on a “first come, first served” basis. A dedicated website and mobile application will also be developed to manage housing allotment, sales, and maintenance, ensuring greater transparency, efficiency, and ease of access in the state’s affordable housing programme.
