Aggregator Companies Must Register by September 1 or Face Strict Action: Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik
Mumbai, July 30: Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has directed all app-based passenger transport aggregator companies operating in the state to complete their registration under the state’s Aggregator Policy by September 1, 2026, warning that strict legal action will be taken against unregistered or non-compliant operators after the deadline.
The move aims to make app-based passenger transport safer, more transparent, and fully regulated. Sarnaik said the rapid growth of app-based transport services has made it essential to ensure passenger safety, verify the legality of vehicles, confirm drivers’ eligibility, and fix the accountability of aggregator companies.
He stressed that while technology-driven services benefit citizens, no company will be allowed to compromise passenger safety or bypass legal provisions in the name of convenience.
Under the new Aggregator Policy 2026, all aggregator platforms must register with the Transport Department. Vehicles attached to these platforms must possess valid permits and registrations, while bikes, auto-rickshaws, and cabs used for passenger transport must be commercially licensed. Private vehicles cannot be used for commercial passenger services without a valid aggregator licence.
The policy also mandates adequate insurance coverage for vehicles and requires companies to implement passenger safety measures and other prescribed service standards.
Sarnaik reiterated that the government supports the aggregator business model but expects it to operate strictly within the legal framework. He urged companies not to wait until the last date and to complete the registration process and compliance requirements well before the September 1 deadline.
