Bollywood is currently experiencing its most prominent controversy, with actor Sonu Mishra at the heart of it. While people have primarily focused on the film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, Sonu Mishra’s decision to remove himself from this project has sparked interest in the actor himself and his career within the industry.
Prior to having his name attached to the ongoing Kala Hiran dispute, Mishra had already collaborated with Salman Khan when they worked together on an action-drama movie titled Sikandar, which was released in 2025. While not considered one of the major stars of the industry, Sonu has continuously worked to build his career primarily through supporting roles and has become well-known to the filmmaking community and casting directors. His recent exit from Kala Hiran has practically put him back in front of the public eye.
This film is generating substantial attention for several reasons, including that it is reportedly based on Salman Khan’s long-standing blackbuck poaching case and that it references the Lawrence Bishnoi angle in the news over the past number of years. Even before it is completed, this project has been the focus of legal and public scrutiny and will most likely be one of the most widely reported controversial films during its development.
Mishra said he became concerned about the project after he learned more about what the film is and what will be expected from him once filming begins. During media interviews, he stated that he was uncomfortable with parts of the film, and did not want to be involved in content that would be considered as targeting Salman Khan inappropriately, and added that he was being pushed to sign a contract to speak out against Salman Khan, which he refused to do.
Actor Govind Namdev made similar comments to the media shortly after Mishra made his comments about the project. Namdev explained that when he originally agreed to act in the film, he did not know what direction the project would take. The controversy has escalated as producers and former cast members of the film continue to make public accusations against each other.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has also been approached by Salman Khan requesting assistance to stop the film. Salman claims the film violates his personality rights through the blatant similarities of images and personalities. Legal proceedings will continue to evaluate the film throughout the ongoing debate.
This entire controversy has impacted Sonu Mishra in such a significant way that he is now perceived as an actor whose performance & work is being analyzed by the industry & audiences alike. Whether the controversy ultimately helps or hinders his career remains to be seen, but for now, his decision to walk away has become a major talking point in Bollywood circles.
