‘We got scared’: Kangana Ranaut backs Delhi police in CJP protest row 

Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has voiced her support for the Delhi police during the clash that took place in the CJP rally. She talked of her experience of being inside the parliament and how the situation remained tense as the MPs feared that events could spiral out of control. She thanked the Delhi police for providing protection. 

While talking to the media stationed outside the Parliament, she also mentioned the concerns of the MPs regarding the aggressive crowd surrounding the parliament. She applauded the Delhi police personnel who acted as a savior between the crowd and the MPs safeguarding the parliament from further escalation. 

“Hum log ghabra gaye thhe. Gates bhi band kar diye gaye thhe. Parliamentarians bhi kaed ho gaye thhe… Mob kis tarah se attack karta hua… kal ek waqt toh ye tha ki hum sab kuch darr gaye thhe sab ki shayad attack kar denge hum par (We were worried. The gates were also closed. The Parliamentarians were inside. The mob were in the mode to attack and at one point we thought they might attack us so were scared).”  

“Lekin main Delhi Police ki sarahanah karti hoon. Unhone humare beech mein shield ban kar khud par pathrav, chotein khayi lekin jan manas pe koi haani nahi hone diya (I applaud the Delhi Police. They took the stones and injuries upon themselves and ensured that no harm came to the public),” she added. 

She further emphasized on the right to protest while also pointing out that governments cannot be forced into making decisions made under the duress of the mob. She said, “Creating a ruckus, causing disruptions, and protesting in this manner is not right. The people have elected a government, and it is their right to decide how to run it. If you feel so strongly, you should stand for election yourself.” 

“You cannot arm-twist the government into deciding who to sack and who to retain; this kind of arm-twisting is not acceptable. Gradually, everyone will seek refuge in the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Sanatan culture because this is our own culture, whereas everything else has been borrowed from the rest of the world,” she added.  

Kangana’s comments arrive right in the middle of an ongoing national controversy regarding police conduct during CJP’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ demonstration which turned violent in its vicinity in Delhi. Delhi Police have defended the way they handled the protest, whereas different opposition leaders and prominent personalities disapproved of police’s use of force on the protesters.
