Leadership
Sanjay Sharma joins NTT DATA as Managing Director
NTT DATA has appointed Sanjay Sharma as Managing Director, bringing an experienced IT services leader into its ranks as businesses navigate the growing complexity of cloud adoption, infrastructure modernisation, and digital transformation.
Sharma brings more than 22 years of experience across global IT services delivery, cloud and infrastructure services, consulting, and digital transformation. He joins NTT DATA from Wipro, where he served as general manager and sector delivery head for Cloud and Infrastructure Services. He spent 11 years at Wipro in various delivery leadership roles.
Before that, Sharma spent more than 12 years at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), working across IT infrastructure, service delivery, and profit-and-loss management. He began his career at PC Solutions and UNICORP Overseas.
In his new role, Sharma is expected to draw on his experience in IT strategy, service innovation, and large-scale transformation initiatives to support business growth and strengthen service delivery across international markets.
A crucial appointment
Enterprise technology is entering a demanding phase. Companies are investing in cloud platforms, modern infrastructure, cybersecurity, and AI-enabled capabilities, while facing pressure to demonstrate tangible returns from their technology spending.
That puts the spotlight on execution. Deploying new technologies is one challenge; integrating them into existing systems, maintaining service reliability, managing costs, and delivering measurable business value are considerably harder.
This is where leadership experience spanning infrastructure, consulting, and global delivery can be particularly valuable. Sharma’s career across Wipro and TCS gives him experience in the operational and commercial dimensions of technology services, including service delivery and profit-and-loss management.
For NTT DATA, the appointment adds leadership experience in areas that underpin enterprise technology programmes. Cloud adoption and digital transformation require more than technical expertise. They demand coordination across teams, dependable delivery at scale, and an understanding of how technology decisions affect business performance.
The opportunity is significant as enterprises increasingly seek technology partners capable of supporting complex, interconnected transformation programmes. For service providers, the challenge is to combine innovation with consistency, helping clients modernise their operations without compromising reliability or losing sight of commercial outcomes.
Sharma’s experience is relevant to that challenge. However, the company has not publicly detailed specific targets or business priorities attached to his appointment, so the precise scope of his mandate remains unclear.
The broader leadership question is how technology services companies will differentiate themselves as enterprise clients demand more from their partners. Technical capabilities remain essential, but execution, accountability, and the ability to deliver transformation at scale are becoming equally important.
Sharma’s appointment brings a veteran of India’s IT services industry into NTT DATA’s leadership at a time when those capabilities are increasingly central to enterprise competitiveness.
