Maharashtra Allocates ₹2,120 Cr for Food Security

Mumbai, June 25: The Maharashtra Government has proposed an additional ₹2,120 crore for the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department under the state’s supplementary budget. The allocation aims to strengthen food security by enhancing procurement, storage, and distribution infrastructure across the state.

The additional funding will be used to improve warehousing facilities, modernize storage systems, and ensure the efficient distribution of essential food grains through the Public Distribution System (PDS). The move is expected to reduce post-harvest losses, improve supply chain efficiency, and ensure timely availability of food grains to beneficiaries.

The government said the increased allocation reflects its commitment to strengthening Maharashtra’s food security network and improving consumer welfare by building a more robust and efficient food storage and distribution system.
