Tiger attack in Chandrapur kills four women

Mumbai: In a tragic and deeply disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves across Maharashtra, four women were killed and nine others injured after a tiger allegedly attacked a group of women collecting tendu leaves in the Sindewahi forest range of Chandrapur district on Friday morning.
According to local sources, a group of 13 women had entered the forest area early in the morning for tendu leaf collection when the tiger suddenly attacked them. The brutal attack claimed the lives of four women on the spot, while nine others sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

The deceased women have been identified as Kavdubai Dadaji Mohurle (45), Anubai Dadaji Mohurle (46), Sangita Santosh Chaudhary (36), and Sunita Kaushik Mohurle (33).

The incident has created panic and grief across the region, with residents describing it as one of the most horrifying tiger attacks in Chandrapur’s history. Locals said this is the first time in the district that four people have lost their lives in a single tiger attack.

Angry villagers have strongly criticized the forest department, alleging negligence despite repeated reports of increased tiger movement in the area. Residents questioned why no prior warning, security arrangements, or preventive measures were put in place for villagers entering the forest.

“Due to the forest department’s careless and sluggish approach, four families have lost their mothers and sisters forever,” villagers said while expressing grief and outrage over the tragedy.

Forest officials and police teams rushed to the spot after the incident, and further investigation is underway. Authorities are also monitoring tiger movement in the area to prevent further attacks.
