Beyond Representation: Building Women’s Careers at Olectra Greentech.

At Olectra Greentech, we believe that building the future of electric mobility must also mean building a workplace where women can build their own futures. In a sector traditionally perceived as male-dominated especially manufacturing, engineering, plant operations, R&D and shop-floor roles we are deliberately moving from “women participation” to “women opportunity, progression and leadership.”
Our approach starts with expanding the talent funnel. Olectra is strengthening women’s participation across the employee lifecycle from campus hiring and early careers to experienced hiring, leadership development and critical business roles. We consciously look beyond traditional hiring patterns and focus on “talent supply”: creating a sustainable pipeline of capable women who can take up roles across engineering, technology, operations, quality, supply chain, finance, HR and corporate functions. This helps ensure that women are considered for the same breadth of opportunities as their male peers, rather than being limited to a narrow set of functions.
A key priority is creating opportunities closer to the heart of the business. Manufacturing and plant environments have historically seen lower representation of women, particularly in technical and operational roles. Olectra is therefore working to make plant careers more accessible and sustainable for women through a stronger people infrastructure, clearer career pathways, supportive workplace practices and greater visibility of women professionals in business-critical roles. We want women to see the factory not as a place where they can only support the business, but as a place where they can lead operations, improve productivity, manage quality, drive technology and shape the future of electric mobility.
Leadership development is another important pillar. We are strengthening leadership competencies, performance management, talent management and succession practices so that high-potential women have a structured path to grow into larger responsibilities. Our focus is not simply on hiring women into the organisation; it is on developing women who can become future leaders. This includes exposure to cross-functional assignments, capability-building, performance conversations and opportunities to work on strategic and operational priorities.
We are also investing in a culture where women can speak, learn and lead with confidence. Initiatives such as our “Shakti” women-focused engagement programme are designed to bring eminent women speakers and meaningful conversations to the workplace, creating space for learning, inspiration and peer connection. Such interventions are important because representation becomes sustainable only when women feel heard, respected and encouraged to aspire for bigger roles.
Safety, dignity and inclusion remain foundational. Our workplace practices are being designed to ensure that women can participate fully without having to compromise on respect, security or professional growth. We are strengthening awareness, employee communication and manager accountability so that inclusion is not treated as an HR programme alone, but as a shared leadership responsibility.
We also recognise that career continuity matters as much as career entry. Workplace childcare, manager sensitisation and practical flexibility can support career continuity. By reducing avoidable barriers around care, participation and workplace confidence, we aim to make long-term careers more sustainable. Our objective is simple: women should not have to choose between being part of a high-growth manufacturing company and building a meaningful career. They should be able to do both, with the organisation creating the conditions to succeed.
We also believe opportunity must extend beyond the workplace entry point. Our talent and HR systems are being aligned to provide greater transparency in goals, performance, learning and career development. As Olectra scales rapidly, these systems will help ensure that access to development and advancement is based on capability, contribution and potential not gender.
Importantly, we are creating visibility for women’s achievements. Recognition programmes, internal storytelling and leadership communication help showcase women who are contributing in engineering, business, operations and support functions. This matters because role models change aspirations. When employees see women solving operational challenges, leading teams and influencing business outcomes, the idea of “where women belong” begins to change.
Our ambition is therefore bigger than increasing representation. We want to build an ecosystem where a woman can join Olectra as an engineer, trainee or professional, grow through challenging assignments, access leadership development, take up plant or business responsibilities, and eventually lead large teams and strategic mandates.
As an electric mobility company preparing for rapid growth, we see women not as a diversity metric but as a strategic talent pool. A future-ready manufacturing organisation cannot afford to use only part of its available talent. Olectra is therefore working to create a workplace where women have equal access to opportunity, capability-building, visibility and leadership.
For us, becoming a Most Preferred Workplace for Women is not about creating a separate track for women. It is about making the mainstream workplace better more inclusive, more merit-based, safer, more developmental and more supportive so that women can participate, progress and lead across the entire value chain of electric mobility.
That is the change we are building: from women being present in manufacturing to women shaping
