Enhancing the manufacturing workplace for a better future

India is at a decisive point in its journey towards prosperity, and it is time to make the next step change in the pace of reform. This growth story is manifested in India’s GDP, which grew at the rate of 7.6 percent annually during the second quarter of the year 2023-24, faster than the 6.2 percent growth recorded for the second quarter of 2022-23.

Although all sectors have contributed to the growth of GDP this quarter, the largest share of growth in value addition was from manufacturing, which grew by 13.9 percent. This is broadly indicative of the success of the Union government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat policy, with numerous new production units are coming up in every sector.

Following a bounce-back ushered by the release of trapped demand, the manufacturing industry has maintained healthy forecasts for the last 16 months. What’s coming in 2024, and how will manufacturers respond?

To discuss all of that and more, and laud those making a difference and setting the benchmark by creating a winning workplace, Most Preferred Workplace will be recognising these doyens in an exclusive industry-centric recognition ceremony on 8th December in Mumbai.

Right from having to reconfigure their sourcing and manufacturing footprints for greater reliability and resilience, diversifying locations to reduce reliance on specific geographies, advancing towards paradigms like manufacturing on demand and mass customisation, one can argue that there are significant shifts in the offing that will make a huge difference to how things play out.

Thus, we need to understand the permanence of these changes, and their broader ramifications. With that in mind, an eclectic collection of industry leaders and experts weighed in on the nature of the new normal of the workplace, and what it takes to create a ‘Most Preferred Workplace’ in this new manufacturing landscape.

The speaker line-up includes Santanu Ghoshal, CHRO, Schaeffler; Nidhi Prasad, Director- Human Resource & Compliance, Ather Energy; Prasanth Nair, Chief Human Resource Officer, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Limited; Prashant Sharma, Vice President HR, Uflex limited; Yeshwinder Patial, Head HR, MG Motor India; Yogi Sriram, Consultant to CEO & MD, Group HR, Larsen & Toubro Ltd.; Dr. Hemchandra Panjikar, Group HR Head, Meril Life Sciences India Pvt Ltd.; Akaash Chatterjee, Managing Director & Partner, BCG; and Mainak Dhar, CEO & Best-Selling Author.
