Determination in Adversity: Differently-Abled Food Delivery Hero Inspires in Tamil Nadu

In Varaganeri, Tiruchi, 36-year-old T. Vaitheeswaran exemplifies the power of hard work despite physical challenges. Affected by polio at age two, Vaitheeswaran, who now crawls to move, juggles two roles – a senior executive at a healthcare firm and a food delivery person, clocking 16-hour workdays.

His day kicks off at 6 a.m., accepting orders from nearby eateries. Despite the absence of ramps or disabled-friendly facilities, he crawls to pick up parcels and delivers them via his two-wheeler, undeterred by scorching temperatures. His spirit reflects his attitude: “My body condition does not permit me to do whatever I want. But whatever I do, I do it with devotion, dedication, and love.”

Raised by his father, Thirunavukarasu, a daily wage laborer, Vaitheeswaran learned self-sufficiency early on. Despite his physical limitations, he pursued education, working at a lathe workshop to fund his studies. His resilience extends beyond work; he’s trekked to spiritual sites like Amarnath Cave Temple and Velliangiri hill, embracing life with unwavering determination.

Married to Veena from Tiruppur, Vaitheeswaran dreams of a government job, despite facing obstacles in the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission exams. He advocates for fair opportunities, highlighting the need to reevaluate testing procedures for differently-abled individuals. His story is a testament to resilience, determination, and the indomitable human spirit.
