In a resolute and calculated response to the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of Wednesday. This high-intensity operation, carried out jointly by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, marked a significant counterterrorism measure targeting Pakistan-based terror outfits. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the mission successfully struck nine terrorist bases—four located in Pakistan and five in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
A Coordinated Tri-Services Offensive
Operation Sindoor was distinguished by its meticulous planning and seamless coordination between the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The operation was executed from Indian soil, reflecting India’s strategic autonomy and military precision. The defence ministry emphasized that it was a “focused, measured, and non-escalatory” response, carefully avoiding any engagement with Pakistani military installations. Instead, it exclusively targeted the infrastructure supporting cross-border terrorism.
According to the official statement, the armed forces employed advanced precision munitions, ensuring minimal collateral damage while maximizing the impact on the intended terrorist infrastructure. Intelligence agencies provided exact coordinates of the targets, allowing Indian forces to carry out swift and effective strikes. Among the most significant targets were the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) headquarters in Bahawalpur and the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) base in Muridke—both long-standing hubs of anti-India terrorist activity.
Strategic Impact and Global Communication
India’s response came after repeated inaction by Pakistan in addressing cross-border terrorism. Despite evidence and international pressure, Pakistan had not acted against the perpetrators of the April 22 Pahalgam attack. Instead, Islamabad indulged in denial, alleging false flag operations, a claim India strongly rejected.
Following the strikes, India reached out to key global stakeholders. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval personally briefed U.S. NSA and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, detailing the intelligence inputs, satellite data, and other evidence pointing to Pakistan’s role. The Indian embassy in Washington reinforced that India had shared credible leads and expected Pakistan to act against the perpetrators. However, continued inaction and denial forced India’s hand.
Terror Targets Neutralized with Surgical Precision
The nine terror camps destroyed during Operation Sindoor included locations in Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot in Pakistan, as well as five significant sites across Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The primary objective was to neutralize the leadership of JeM and LeT, two of the most lethal terror groups that have repeatedly orchestrated attacks on Indian soil.
Bahawalpur has long been known as the epicenter of Jaish-e-Mohammed, founded by UN-designated terrorist Masood Azhar, who was released in 1999. Muridke, another target, is the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba, the group responsible for the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Both these organizations continue to receive backing and shelter within Pakistani territory, despite international condemnation.
India’s Strategic Resolve
Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally monitored the operation through the night, reflecting the highest level of political and military coordination. The Ministry of Defence reiterated that the strikes were carried out with great restraint and in full compliance with international norms. No civilian areas or Pakistani military installations were targeted, underscoring India’s commitment to responsible state conduct even in the face of provocation.
India has now sent a strong and unequivocal message. Acts of terror will not go unanswered, and those who plan or shelter terrorists will face direct consequences. Operation Sindoor stands as a testament to India’s resolve in safeguarding its sovereignty and protecting innocent lives from the scourge of terrorism.
