In a rapid and coordinated defensive response, India has launched Operation Sindoor following a series of Pakistani provocations, including drone incursions, infiltration attempts, and targeted military aggression. The Indian Army and security forces responded decisively to neutralize threats and protect civilians across sensitive border regions.
Late Thursday night, Pakistani-origin drones targeted military establishments in Jammu, Pathankot, and Amritsar. However, the Indian Defence Ministry confirmed the threats were neutralized using a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities. Over 50 enemy drones were intercepted and destroyed by the Army’s air defence units employing L-70 guns, Schilka systems, and other counter-UAS technology in Jammu, Udhampur, Akhnoor, and Nagrota.
Simultaneously, the Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a significant infiltration attempt in Jammu’s Samba district. Seven terrorists were eliminated, and the Pakistani post at Dhandhar sustained extensive damage. Security has since been heightened at airports in Bhubaneswar, Amritsar, and Chandigarh, with multiple flight cancellations to and from conflict-sensitive zones such as Leh, Srinagar, Jodhpur, and Rajkot.
Meanwhile, a region-wide blackout was enforced across parts of Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, with authorities urging citizens to remain indoors, away from windows, and avoid panic. Sirens were sounded in Chandigarh following an air raid warning. The Amritsar DPRO assured the public that the armed forces were actively engaged and that updates would follow as the situation evolved.
Indian railways announced special trains
In response to these escalations, Indian Railways announced three special trains from Jammu and Udhampur to Delhi. States like Uttarakhand and Rajasthan have cancelled all government employee leaves, with emergency services placed on high alert. Hospitals have been instructed to prepare for contingencies with increased ICU and ventilator readiness.
Adding to the concern, a disinformation campaign originating from Pakistani social media handles spread fake news about ATM closures and airbase attacks. India’s PIB Fact Check unit debunked these claims and urged the public to rely only on verified information.
Prominent leaders including Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and J&K CM Omar Abdullah publicly voiced support for the armed forces. Abdullah visited hospitals in Poonch to meet those injured by Pakistani shelling. Meanwhile, LG Manoj Sinha assessed ground realities in Uri, and the Punjab government dispatched ministers to border districts to evaluate emergency preparedness.
Companies gave clear message of Unity
In another show of national solidarity, Indian Oil assured the public of uninterrupted fuel and LPG supply, asking citizens to avoid panic buying. EaseMyTrip issued travel advisories against visiting Turkey and Azerbaijan, citing their diplomatic leanings during the conflict.
Sports and cultural life were also affected. The BCCI has suspended the ongoing IPL season, while the Assam government has called off all remaining Bihu celebrations.
China, while refraining from taking sides, called for restraint from both India and Pakistan, urging peaceful resolution in line with international law.
Operation Sindoor reflects India’s resolve to defend its sovereignty and civilians while maintaining calm amid rising tensions. As the situation continues to unfold, India’s military readiness and strategic composure stand firm against any external provocation.
