Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis travelled from Mumbai to Shirdi aboard the Vande Bharat Express on Saturday, highlighting the importance of fuel conservation and encouraging citizens to adopt public transport for sustainable travel.
The Chief Minister undertook the journey as part of a wider awareness initiative inspired by Prime Minister Narendra modi’s appeal to reduce fuel consumption and promote environmentally responsible practices. During the journey, Fadnavis interacted with passengers and appreciated the comfort, speed and modern facilities provided by the Vande Bharat train service.
Sharing his experience, the Chief Minister described the Vande Bharat Express as a symbol of India’s growing railway infrastructure and technological advancement. He said the train service reflects the country’s progress towards modern, efficient and eco-friendly transportation. He also thanked Prime Minister Modi for introducing world-class rail connectivity across the country through the Vande Bharat network.
Officials said the initiative was aimed at creating awareness about the need to reduce dependence on private vehicles and encourage greater use of public transport systems. The move also comes amid increasing emphasis on energy conservation, reduction of carbon emissions and sustainable urban mobility.
This is not the first time Fadnavis has used alternative modes of transport to spread awareness. In recent months, he has travelled by economy-class flight and motorcycle to underline the importance of responsible fuel usage and public participation in conservation efforts.
The Vande Bharat Express, developed under the Government of India’s railway modernization programme, has become one of the country’s flagship train services, offering faster travel, enhanced passenger comfort and improved connectivity between major cities and pilgrimage destinations.
