Salman Khan reacts to paparazzi outside hospital

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is known for his warm rapport with photographers. He often stops for a photo op and jokes with photographers, even when he is busy. However, when paparazzi followed him outside of the Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai this week, Salman quickly ran out of patience as he was leaving the hospital during what appeared to be a private family moment.

According to many videos posted online, after leaving the hospital, the paps followed him and yelled out for him to turn around so they could get his photo or video. Clearly upset, the actor asked them to maintain silence and questioned the lack of sensitivity in a place like a hospital. He then asked if they would act that way if they had a family member in the hospital.

That night after leaving, he posted on Instagram many posts voicing his anger and frustration over this encounter with photographers. One of the captions he used stated I am 60 years old, but do not forget that I am still capable of fighting back. He wrote, “60 saal ka ho gaya hoon lekin ladna nahin bhoola.”

Salman Khan expressed his appreciation for the media in general and the role that photographing celebrities is a source for many photographers to make money. However, there are some moments in which the media and photographers cross a line, and that is when a person is in pain because of hospitalization or suffering due to a family emergency. Many fans online also sided with Salman and let people know that public personas, regardless of their fame, should receive compassion when they are experiencing vulnerable moments.

This incident has reignited the debate over celebrity privacy rights in India’s entertainment industry. Public figures are constantly under public scrutiny, but there still seems to be a growing concern over boundaries that photographers & reporters cross when it comes to capturing or reporting on emotionally charged situations. Hospitals, in particular, are spaces associated with anxiety, grief, and personal struggles, and not publicity.

Interestingly, some viewers did not perceive Salman Khan’s reaction as being arrogant but rather as a glimpse of a man who has lost control of the situation and is being overwhelmed by it. Underneath the superstar-individual in the larger-than-life image was a man simply trying to protect his moment as being private and dignified.

At a time when viral content often takes precedence over empathy, Salman Khan’s emotional response has struck a chord far beyond Bollywood.
