Vantara: Nurturing Nature's Guardians

Reliance Industries, in collaboration with the Reliance Foundation, has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative called Vantara, spearheaded by Anant Ambani, Director on the boards of RIL and Reliance Foundation. This innovative program is dedicated to the rescue, treatment, and rehabilitation of animals in need, both in India and beyond.

Located amidst the lush Green Belt of Reliance’s Jamnagar Refinery Complex in Gujarat, Vantara covers an expansive 3,000 acres. Since its inception, the program has made remarkable strides in animal welfare, rescuing over 200 elephants along with countless other animals, reptiles, and birds from hazardous situations.

At the heart of Vantara lies its Centre for Elephants, boasting state-of-the-art facilities including scientifically designed enclosures, hydrotherapy pools, and even a luxurious “elephant jacuzzi” aimed at easing arthritis in these majestic creatures. Additionally, a sprawling 650-acre Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre provides sanctuary for animals rescued from circuses and congested zoos, offering them spacious enclosures and top-notch care.

With a dedicated staff exceeding 2,100 members, Vantara has been instrumental in saving endangered species like leopards and crocodiles, rescuing them from various threats such as road accidents and human-wildlife conflicts. The program extends its reach globally, rescuing distressed animals from hunting lodges in Africa and facilities facing euthanasia in Slovakia and Mexico.

Through strategic partnerships with renowned international organizations such as the Smithsonian and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Vantara is leveraging collective expertise to enhance its conservation efforts. Collaborations with institutions like the National Zoological Park and Assam State Zoo aim to amplify conservation awareness among the youth.

Moreover, Vantara is committed to advancing animal welfare through cutting-edge healthcare, research, and academic endeavors. By collaborating with esteemed entities like the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature, the program is evolving new standards in compassionate care and conservation practices.
