Fadnavis Urges People to Avoid Travel Amid Heavy Rains

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel as heavy rainfall and changing weather conditions continue to impact the state. Addressing the Legislative Assembly, he said the entire state administration is on high alert and fully prepared to respond to any emergency.

Fadnavis said incidents such as cloudbursts, landslides and strong winds are becoming more frequent due to changing weather patterns. While the government has undertaken extensive preparedness measures, unexpected situations can still arise. He assured that municipal corporations, the State Disaster Management Authority and all concerned departments are actively engaged in rescue and relief operations.

The Chief Minister said public safety remains the government’s top priority. Traffic is being diverted from vulnerable areas, roads are being closed where necessary, alternative routes are being provided, stranded citizens are being rescued, and efforts are underway to remove vehicles trapped in waterlogged areas.

He informed the House that residents from high-risk locations have been shifted to safer places over the past two days, with adequate accommodation arranged for them.

Warning that strong winds and heavy rainfall are expected in parts of the state later in the day, Fadnavis urged people to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. He also advised youngsters to avoid monsoon tourism, waterfalls, hill stations and other hazardous locations.

The Chief Minister added that the State Disaster Management Control Room is continuously monitoring the situation, while district administrations have been instructed to remain on alert. He assured that no lapse in emergency response would be allowed and that all necessary measures would be taken promptly. He also said a detailed statement on recent incidents, relief efforts and future preventive measures would be presented in the Assembly on Tuesday.
