The (FCI) Regional Office Maharashtra, has started selling rice under the Open Market Sale Scheme (Domestic) [OMSS (D)] from the first week of August 2025. The initiative aims to increase the availability of rice in the market and help stabilize prices.
Rice is being offered through e-auctions as well as through a dedicated movement system (bulk sales). Interested buyers can register with FCI’s e-auction service provider via its official portal and take part in the bidding process. The empanelment process is completed within 72 hours.
For the upcoming e-auctions scheduled on April 29 and 30, 2026, around 10,000 metric tonnes (MT) of rice will be offered under the regular OMSS (D) category in Maharashtra. Traders, bulk buyers, and manufacturers are eligible to participate, with a minimum bid quantity of 1 MT and a maximum limit of 7,000 MT per bidder.
Additionally, under OMSS (D) through dedicated movement, a total of 50,000 MT of rice and 40,000 MT of non-FRK Custom Milled Rice (CMR) with 10% broken rice are being offered. This includes 10,000 MT from Punjab and 30,000 MT from Andhra Pradesh. In this category, bulk consumers and traders can bid with a minimum quantity of 2,650 MT.
Successful bidders must inform the designated railhead destination to the concerned regional General Manager.
The OMSS (D) scheme is expected to significantly improve rice supply in the open market, helping control rising prices and providing relief to consumers.
