Mumbai, July 11: The Ashadhi Wari is not merely a pilgrimage to the Vitthal Temple in Pandharpur, but a profound symbol of faith, devotion, and selfless service for millions of Warkaris (devotees). As hundreds of thousands of pilgrims travel on foot over several days, maintaining communication with their families becomes as essential as addressing their daily physical needs. Recognizing this crucial requirement, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has personally funded and deployed five state-of-the-art mobile charging vans dedicated to serving the pilgrims along the route.
Managed and operated by young Shiv Sainiks, these specialized charging vans travel alongside the procession throughout the entire pilgrimage, offering completely free mobile charging services to the devotees. Each vehicle is custom-equipped to charge approximately 100 mobile phones simultaneously, enabling thousands of Warkaris to benefit from the service on a daily basis.
During the pilgrimage, many devotees find themselves hundreds of kilometers away from home. In such circumstances, mobile phones serve as a vital lifeline to reassure anxious family members of their safety. By keeping their devices powered, pilgrims can remain in constant touch with their households, effectively alleviating the anxieties of loved ones back home and allowing the devotees to immerse themselves peacefully in their spiritual journey.
Reflecting on the initiative, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik stated, “The Wari is a tradition rooted in selfless service. Serving the Warkaris is equivalent to serving Lord Vitthal Himself. Ensuring their phones remain operational brings peace of mind and smiles to the faces of their families. This facility extends beyond mere utility; it is a humble endeavor to strengthen human connections, empathy, and mutual trust.”
Amidst the continuous chanting of hymns and the rhythmic beats of traditional Taal-Mridanga, this welfare initiative has set a benchmark for public service during the pilgrimage. By addressing a modern essential need to make the spiritual journey smoother and safer, these mobile charging vans have beautifully bridged faith with humanity an effort that is receiving widespread acclaim and appreciation from the Warkari community.
