The Government of India has announced the rescheduling of the first summit of the International Big Cat Allience, which was earlier scheduled to be held in New Delhi on June 1, 2026.
The summit was planned alongside the Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-IV), considering that several African nations are home to major big cat species and play a significant role in global efforts related to wildlife conservation, ecological sustainability, and biodiversity protection.
According to the official statement issued by the Government of India, the decision was taken after consultations with the Chairperson of the African Union and the African Union Commission, following the decision to hold the Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit at a later date.
In view of this development, the Government has decided to postpone the first IBCA Summit as well to ensure wider and more active participation from all range countries, including African nations.
Fresh dates for the summit will be announced later after consultations with participating countries and stakeholders.
India reiterated its commitment to working closely with international partners to promote biodiversity conservation, protection of wildlife habitats, and sustainable development goals.
