The French President Emmanuel Macron is poised to be the chief guest at this year’s Republic Day festivities in India. Macron’s itinerary includes visits to iconic landmarks such as Amber Fort, Jantar Mantar, and Hawa Mahal. His schedule also features a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Republic Day 2024 parade is scheduled to kick off at 10:30 am on January 26, following the route from Vijay Chowk to Kartavya Path. The venue is set to host approximately 77,000 people, with 42,000 spots reserved for the general public. This year’s themes are expected to resonate with the spirit of “Viksit Bharat” and “Bharat – Loktantra ki Matruka,” highlighting India’s fundamental qualities as a democracy.

The Republic Day parade will take centre stage in showcasing the country’s cultural heritage and diversity, presenting India as the ‘mother of democracy’ with a special emphasis on women. Breaking tradition, the parade will commence with music played using Indian musical instruments by 100 women artists instead of the military band, as announced by Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane.

In a historic move, French Rafale fighter jets will soar over Kartavya Path, accompanied by a French marching contingent, while French President Emmanuel Macron presides as the chief guest.

A significant highlight of this year’s parade is the participation of a 144-personnel tri-Service women contingent, a first in Republic Day history, with 48 personnel from each service. The Indian Air Force’s (IAF) latest addition, the C-295 medium transport aircraft, will make its debut in the fly-past over Kartavya Path.  Notably, all cultural performances, featuring around 1,300 women, will contribute to the highest number of performers ever witnessed. Additionally, approximately 13,000 achievers from various fields and those who excelled through government schemes will receive special invitations to attend the parade. The 75th Republic Day celebration promises to be a grand spectacle, blending tradition, modernity, and a significant nod to women empowerment.
