The Maharashtra Police are currently investigating a disturbing anonymous email warning of a possible explosion within 48 hours, adding to growing tensions and heightened alertness across the state. The email, which offered no specific location or timing, was sent to the Maharashtra Police Control Room in Colaba, Mumbai, and has prompted swift action from state and city law enforcement agencies, particularly the Mumbai Police.
A Mysterious Message and Heightened Vigilance
The email, reportedly sent from an account bearing the name Mamata Borse, carried a vague but urgent message. It requested the authorities to remain alert “today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow” as a “big blast” could occur “suddenly,” without sufficient time to identify the where and when of the attack. The message urged the police not to dismiss the threat as the danger could target any part of the state, or potentially anywhere in the country.
Mumbai Police have since begun a thorough probe, attempting to trace the origin and authenticity of the email. Investigative teams are pursuing all leads, including digital forensics, to locate the sender. Although a formal FIR has not yet been filed, the authorities are treating the message with utmost seriousness. Officials have followed standard procedures, informing relevant state and national security agencies and deploying investigative teams.
Security Intensifies Amid India-Pakistan Tensions
The threat arrives at a sensitive time. Mumbai and other Indian metros are already under heightened surveillance following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The same day the bomb threat email was received, former Member of Parliament Navneet Rana and her husband, MLA Ravi Rana, also received death threats from an unidentified mobile number. A non-cognisable offence has been registered at the Khar Police Station. Similar threats in recent months have been directed at public figures including Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Tiger Shroff, and politician Zeeshan Siddique. Authorities are treating the rise in threats as part of a growing security challenge and are actively investigating each case.
