In a seismic shift in Delhi’s political landscape, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) founder member and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has announced his resignation from the party. In a major blow to the AAP leadership, Chadha declared that he, along with two-thirds of the party’s Rajya Sabha members, will be merging with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The dramatic announcement was made during a press conference today, where Chadha was accompanied by fellow Rajya Sabha MPs Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal.
“AAP Has Deviated from Core Values”
Addressing the media, Raghav Chadha leveled serious allegations against the AAP leadership, claiming that the party has completely strayed from its founding principles and core values. “We have decided that we, the two-thirds of the members belonging to the AAP in Rajya Sabha, will exercise the provisions of the Constitution of India and merge ourselves with the BJP,” Chadha stated.
A Significant Setback for AAP
This development marks a massive split within the Aam Aadmi Party. With 8 out of the party’s 10 Rajya Sabha MPs reportedly set to join the BJP, the political ramifications are expected to be substantial. The move not only weakens the AAP’s position in the Upper House but also signals a major realignment of power in the national capital.
Political Reactions
The BJP is yet to issue a formal statement regarding the induction of these senior AAP leaders, but the development is already being hailed as a major victory for the party’s outreach strategy. On the other hand, the AAP is facing a leadership crisis as it grapples with this exodus of its prominent faces.
Further updates are awaited as the political situation in the national capital continues to unfold.
