Major Match-Fixing Scandal in Mizoram Premier League: 24 Players and 3 Clubs Banned

The Mizoram Football Association (MFA) has issued bans to three clubs, three club officials, and 24 players for alleged “match manipulation” in the recently concluded Mizoram Premier League (MPL-11). Among those penalized is Felix Lalruatsanga, the league’s top scorer from Ramhlun Atletico FC, who netted eight goals during the season.

In a statement, the MFA announced that, with the aid of local law enforcement, it had uncovered significant cases of corruption within the league. “These actions represent a grave breach of our values, threaten the integrity of our sport, and disrespect the fans who support Mizoram football,” the statement read.

As a result, strict sanctions were imposed on the implicated parties. Clubs involved in these activities will face future participation bans, while players and officials will be suspended and disciplined as appropriate. The sanctioned clubs—Sihphir Venghlun FC, Ramhlun Atletico FC, and FC Bethlehem—each received three-year bans, with Sihphir Venghlun FC notably finishing in the league’s top four.

Additionally, an official from each club was suspended, including Robert Laldithara of Sihphir Venghlun FC, who received a five-year ban. Two players, Lalnunzama of Chanmari FC and L Lotha of FC Bethlehem, received lifetime bans. Sihphir Venghlun FC accounted for most banned players, with 14 of the 24.

The MFA emphasized its commitment to maintaining the league’s integrity and assured fans and stakeholders that enhanced regulatory frameworks, and stricter monitoring would prevent future incidents. Earlier this year, the MFA initiated an Amnesty program for players with falsified birth dates, encouraging them to provide legitimate digital birth certificates to ensure fair competition in age-restricted events.
