Patna: Bihar is set to witness a major political development as the announcement of a New Chief Minister is expected soon. The leader of the legislative party will be elected on April 14, may be the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for April 15.
According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend the swearing-in ceremony in Patna. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president Nitin Nabin are also expected to be present at the event.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will arrive in Patna on April 14 as the central observer to oversee the selection of the legislature party leader. The final decision on the Chief Minister’s name is expected to be sealed during this meeting.
Sources further indicate that Prime Minister Modi may reach Patna on the evening of April 14 and stay overnight in the state capital before attending the swearing-in ceremony on April 15 and returning thereafter.
Meanwhile, the current Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has reportedly convened the last cabinet meeting on April 14, after which he is likely to tender his resignation, signaling a near-certain change in leadership in Bihar.
Suspense Over New CM Continues
The suspense over the next Chief Minister remains unresolved. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is currently seen as the frontrunner. However, other names, including Union Minister Nityanand Rai, are also under consideration.
The BJP leadership is reportedly weighing caste and political equations carefully before finalizing the candidate. The legislative party meeting on April 14 is expected to play a decisive role, followed by a joint meeting of NDA allies to formally endorse the chosen leader.
Swearing-in Likely at Bapu Sabhagar
The swearing-in ceremony is likely to be held at Bapu Sabhagar, with arrangements also being prepared at Lok Bhavan. In the first phase, only the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and a few senior ministers are expected to take oath, while cabinet expansion may follow later. All eyes are now on April 14 and 15, which are set to be crucial days for Bihar’s political landscape.
